“Small is beautiful” risks becoming a tired – and perhaps even comic – slogan of the past, words which recall nothing so much as reminisces of should-length hair, bell-bottom trousers, the wire-rimmed glasses of John Lennon, and slogans such as “make love, not war”.
Some of the acerbic critics of professor Schumacher, in fact, have advanced the suggestion that the essence of his influential book adds up to nothing more than “I would like to have a country house in Tuscany and a comfortable income”.
But the dream of a new life remains one with a certain validity, and it inspired the life and careers of Ida Budetta and Mario Corrado, first graduates of the Faculty of Law of Salerno and the Faculty of Architecture of the Turin Polytechnical Institute, but now active and successful producers of wine in a magical spot to the south of Salerno. We are talking about an enchanted place, immersed in the National Park of the Cilento area and not far from the magnificent Doric temples of Paestum.

Vignazzurra

It is possible to stay at the small and ancient stone farmhouse of Vignazzurra, nestling among the vineyards and only a two hundred metres scenic walk from the sea, which has won a European Blue Flag.
The spectacular cliffs here form part of the protected area of the Marine Park of Castellabate. The beach is very isolated and well away from crowds, even at the height of the tourist season

Tastings

It is also possible for guests and groups to taste the wines and sample local products in the vineyards, under a centuries-old carob tree, beside an old stone oven or in a meadow overlooking the sea.
Just enjoy being in the midst of the vineyards, olive trees and a magnificent landscape composed of the Mediterranean, ancient oaksand ruins, cliffs and the sea with the Isle of Capri in the distance.
A minibus service is available for reaching the farm or else there are guided walks among the rare fauna and wild flora of the area.

San Giovanni Wines

The property borders with the coast and the vineyards enjoy a spectacular view over the sea below.
The project is best described in their own words: “we brought abandoned vineyards back to life and restored antique farmhouses with traditional and organic construction techniques of the past”.
And, behind it all, a simple philosophy: “we chose to live in synergy with this spot, pristine and uncontaminated as it was 1000 years ago, initially without electricity and telephone, because we love nature, the Cilento, and the vine”.
The vine has repaid their faith, energy, and dedication with a series of wines of true authenticity, bottles which breathe back the air of the sea and the soul of the soil: Aglianico and Piedirosso for the reds, Fiano for the whites, bottles which offer not only a way of transforming grapes into nectar but, as well, a new way of living one’s own time.
