Montecchio Wines
Montecchio offers a variety of unique emotions, from the ancient underground cellars to the Orciaia, or walks among vineyards and olive groves to visit the splendid ancient pottery where skilled hands of real master craftsmen still work the prized Florentine terracotta.
Ivo Nuti, the family patriarch, was one of the major figures in the tanning community of Santa Croce Sull’Arno, one of the major centres of the industry in all of Italy. A man with major entrepreneurial talents, obviously, but a true lover of the countryside as well, and his property near San Donato was very close to his heart.
Riccardo now continues to take care of the farm estate, while all the main winemaking operations in the cellar, where many important winemakers have worked in the past, have now been entrusted to Stefano di Blasi, a well prepared and highly professional talent.
The most important wine, clearly, is the Chianti Classico Riserva but both the Etrusco and Pietracupa are estimable examples of new-style blends of Sangiovese and Cabernet Sauvignon.
