Viticulture in the Campania region of southern Italy is an ancient art that dates back to the landings of the first Greek settlers on the coast of Italy, in an epoch in which maritime transport and travel was significantly swifter and more economical than that of the first primitive road systems.
This heritage can still be found in the names of the grapes and the wines: the leading white grape of the region is called “Greco” (Greek), while the Aglianico, the leading red variety, is believed to take its name from a corruption of the word “Hellenic”.
The “Tenuta Cavalier Pepe” can be found at Sant’Angelo all’Esca, a leading centre of viticulture. The house’s vineyard properties - some 50 hectares - can be found in some of the most prestigious parts of the province, in town boroughs like Luogosano, Sant’Angelo all’Esca and Taurasi itself, the town that has given its name to the greatest red wine in southern Italy.
The vineyards are all planted on sites lying between 1150 and 1650 feet above sea level, ideal for the region’s grapes, which benefit from the cool evening and night time temperatures that characterise this area.

The ancient Farm

Hospitality is seen as relaxation and comfort on this farm holiday centre lying in the midst of nature and blessed by the sun in the beautiful area of Irpinia; situated at a height of 500 metres on the gentle hills of the Calore Valley, it immediately allows visitors to enjoy a view that is a unique experience whatever the time of year. Here guests can spend a holiday to suit every need, where they can go on foot to reach the winemaking estate of the “Tenuta Cavalier Pepe”, with the famous “La Collina” restaurant, only 500 metres away, or visit the characteristic villages in the area.

Holiday Accomodation

These are composed of two comfortable independent flats that can host up to 13 people. They overlook a glorious landscape dotted with vineyards and secular olive trees.
The La Collina restaurant
The La Collina restaurant, created in an old and now renovated farmhouse, is situated among the vineyards of the Tenuta Cavalier Pepe farm and offers fine views of this lovely part of Irpinia.
Here guests are almost forced to appreciate the venue thanks to the surrounding landscape that offers wonderful surprises throughout the year and, above all, an excellent cuisine based solely on quality products that strongly reflect the verdant territory of Irpinia.

Cavalier del Pepe Wines

The Fiano di Avellino, the Greco di Tufo, the Coda di Volpe and the Aglianico (in its various denominations: the Taurasi DOGC, Irpinia Aglianico DOC, Iripinia Campi Taurasini DOC) are all worthy of note and form part of the farm’s range of wines.
The overall approach is that of remaining unwaveringly faithful to tradition (there are no Cabernet, Merlot or Chardonnay grapes here), but the winemaking is anything but static, barrels are used both for the selections: the Brancato-Fiano di Avellino DOCG and the Grancare-Greco di Tufo DOCG, as well as for the prestigious “Opera Mia” Taurasi DOCG and “La Loggia del Cavaliere” Taurasi Riserva DOCG.
It is a family-run farm where Milena Pepe oversees the winery operations.
