Girolamo Guicciardini Strozzi is the possessor of two very important surnames indeed: the first that of the distinguished Renaissance historian and friend of Niccolò Machiavelli, the second that of the one of the most important families of Florentine bankers, rivals and opponents of the Medici, an important force in the life of the Florentine Republic during its entire existence.
The prince, however, is an entirely modern man and, in addition to his winemaking activities, manages to find the time to teach international law at the University of Florence.
The current 285 acres of vineyards are clearly a major responsibility, but one which he bears lightly: his programme of expansion has taken his work away from San Gimignano to more distant parts of Tuscany, where he cultivates red grapes, principally of French origin, unlike those in his original holdings.
A cosmopolitan man, however, he gives little significance to such provincial distinctions.

Rental Vacation Homes

These enchanting flats can be found in the characteristic, ancient and fascinating town of San Gimignano in Tuscany. Once part of a huge farm, the holiday flats have all been recently restored in respect of all their distinguishing rural aspects, while the original structure is a testimonial of traditional Tuscan architecture.
The flats are situated in the town centre, thus allowing guests to fully enjoy the unique atmosphere to be found there. The furnishings are simple and essential while the choice of materials like terracotta and wood gives the rooms a hospitable and intimate feeling.
The various flats either overlook the gardens of the farm or one of the main squares in San Gimignano.
The famous cities of Florence and Siena are in the near vicinity, in fact only a few kilometres away from the farm, together with the many Tuscan villages that reflect the typical local traditions; alternatively, it is possible, on prior appointment, to visit the cellars of the Villa Cusona estate, belonging to the famous Guicciardini-Strozzi winery.

Flats

The flats can host from two to six people and are equipped with all mod cons, including a fully equipped kitchen, a private bathroom, colour TV and heating.

He has also shown his professionalism in his choice of the consulting winemakers who have worked with him over the decades and who include some of the most important names in Italian oenology: first Vittorio Fiore, now Franco Bernabei.
It is also important to remember that he was the first President of the Vernaccia Consortium for over 40 years. His two daughters, Natalia and Irina Strozzi, have not only inherited his passion and dedication, but also recently started following in their father's footsteps.
Given the large and heterogeneous nature of the various areas under production, it is somewhat difficult to single out individual wines that might be considered representative, but the excellence of such offerings as the Vernaccia Cusona 1933: (in memory of the year 1933 when the prince’s father carried out the first bottling of the Vernaccia from the flask to the Bordeaux bottle) and the Sodole, both produced in San Gimignano, along with the Bolgheri Rosso Ocra and Vignarè from the upper Maremma, are well worth citing.
More than any other, perhaps, we should mention the Millanni, whose name refers to and reflects the thousand-year history of the Cusona estate (994-1994).
