THE ESTATE
The title of the most famous novel of writer Wolfe, “You Can’t Go Home Again” has become a common phrase to describe those feelings of nostalgia and loss so common in adult life. But, in the case of Saverio Roberti, the phrase has been inverted: he and his family have, in a certain sense, gone home again, to the Tuscany of their origins even if the family, for centuries, had lived in Rome. The Roberti had maintained their ties to the city of their origins, attending the church of San Giovanni dei Fiorentini in Via Giulia in Rome, the house of worship of Rome’s resident Florentine community. Saverio Roberti, the current family head, recalls that his mother, when looking for household help, sought it in Tuscany in order to maintain those precious ties of customs and speech that still linked her and her family to the region.

The common desire for a country home for weekends and summers of repose, an oasis which would also allow the children to escape the more negative and unhealthy aspects of urban life, led to the purchase of a house, and it was only natural that the choice should fall on the area of Montepulciano, the closest to Rome in Tuscany.

Holiday flats

All the flats have independent entrances and some of them can if necessary be linked up together, thanks to communicating doors. The ground floor flats all have their own private area in the luxuriant garden and come complete with tables and chairs, while the first floor flats boast a furnished terrace. All six flats are distinguished by different interiors and names and can host from two to four people each.

Agriturismo San Gallo

This farm holiday accommodation lies right in the middle of the verdant Tuscan countryside surrounded by a lake, a river, olive groves and vineyards; this flourishing nature has contributed towards making it a protected reserve for wildlife. All the holiday flats are situated in the peaceful and recently restructured old farmhouse, where every care has been taken to maintain tradition alongside modern comforts.

The farmhouse is situated on a sunny hill and gives onto a beautiful view. The farm organises many open-air activities, including tastings, tours of the vineyards and the cellar, ping-pong and mountain bike trips to places of interest, like the unique town of Montepulciano. It is moreover possible to relax in the farm’s swimming pool encircled by olive trees and vineyards. It is also possible to visit the nearby towns and cities of Siena, Pienza and Bagno Vignoni and other local spas, or go on organised excursions to the numerous protected wildlife areas. The farm’s position also makes it perfect for food and wine tours.

Le Bertille Wines

The property included a small vineyard, and wine was, an is, an integral part of country life in Tuscany, particularly in place so famous for its wine Vino Nobile, called “the king of wines” by poet Francesco Redi in the far-away 17th century.

Passion and a realization that the area of the property, located near the church of San Biagio, was a well known spot for high level viticulture, did the rest. The determined work of daughter Olimpia Roberti and the experienced counsels of consulting winemaker Lorenzo Landi completed the task, successfully creating the Vino Nobile di Montepulciano DOCG and its Riserva in particularly good vintages, the Rosso di Montepulciano DOC, the Chianti Colli Senesi DOCG and the “Attesa", an IGT Toscana Rosso.
