Mount Etna is much in the news these days, and not merely for the periodic eruptions which light up the nighttime sky.
But Etna is also in the news today for its excellent wines, famous in the early part of the 20th century, but far less known and recognized in the period after World War II, to the point where the exceptional quality of the Nerello Mascalese grape, the base of the appellation blend, seemed more a legend than a verifiable reality.
The past decade has proven the exact contrary, to the delight of the world’s wine press, and it is easy to forget that the territory can boast houses with a significant history and a commitment to its viticulture, which goes far back in time.
