Winery Info

The Morra Cascina del Monastero property is situated to the south of Alba, where the majestic Nebbiolo gives life to the powerful, long lasting and often unforgettable wines of the denomination known as Barolo.
The property once belonged to the local monastery of Mecenasco, which was home to the Benedictine monks for three centuries.
The Monastery was however closed in 1800 and the farm donated to the Marquess of Barolo. Grasso family came on the scene several years later and after many trials and tribulations: Alessio Grasso, the grandfather of the current owner, bought the Cascina del Monastero in 1926 and, apart from the buildings themselves, also became the owner of about six hectares of vineyards.
The Nebbiolo grape in the Annunziata di La Morra area has long been known for its roundness, scent and refined style.
This only vine in the farm vineyards, which also include Barbera and Dolcetto - the present owner, Giuseppe Grasso processes the former in a particularly refined way – and all this is well reflected in the spicy and elegant style of the Cascina del Monastero grapes.
Giuseppe Grasso, who represents the third generation to cultivate these grapes, has a preference for a modern style, aging the wine in small barrels and an attempt (successful) to ensure that the Nebbiolo expresses its legendary power and intensity, with a softness and a grace designed for the consumers of today.

Farm Holiday Accomodation

The Cascina del Monastero farm holiday accommodation offers its guests two different solutions: suites or flats. The farmhouse itself owes its name to its origins: in fact it was originally a farm that was run for over 300 years by Benedictine monks.
The peacefulness and spirituality of this venue make it perfect for spending a quiet holiday in the company of good wines. It is in fact possible to tour the 18th century farm cellars and taste the wines that are produced here. All the bedrooms are large and have a personality of their own, clearly defined by the simple furnishings and rustic style.
It is situated near La Morra, in the heart of the Langhe area, and only an hour and a half from the main cities in northern Italy, like Genoa, Turin and Milan. Surrounded by the farm vineyards, its fine position ensures that it is in the sunshine all day long.
Guests staying in this enchanting farmhouse can laze away in the beautifully kept farm gardens, enjoy the swimming pool, relax under a portico or on a terrace, take part in one of the cooking courses organised by the farm or simply make the most of the sauna and the spa area.

Suite & Bedrooms

The suites are bedrooms that can host up to three people. They come complete with all comforts and a private bathroom. Guests staying in these bedrooms also have the use of the shared kitchens.

Cascina del Monastero Wines

The house range offers a wide choice of Barolo wines: the regular bottling, the Annunziata, is more classical because it is aged in barrels; the Bricco Luciani, the most important cru from the farm vineyards; the Bricco Riund from a circular-shaped plot of vines, also available in a Reserve version.
The Barolo Perno is a little different as it is grown in the eastern part of the denomination, while the Nebbiolo di Perno is usually a more powerful and more structured wine.
