The enormous flow of viticultural investment towards the Maremma, with the establishment or expansion of an entire series of appellations, Bolgheri, Val di Cornia, Montescudaio, Monteregio di Massa Marittima, Morellino di Scansano and Montecucco, could easily give the impression of an area with a long-established history of fine wine, traditions that go back generations if not entire centuries.
The truth, however, is entirely different as, until quite recently, the Maremma was principally an area where the only activity was cattle breeding.
And this was due to the simple fact that much of the land was marshy or muddy. The Tenuta La Badiola’s history is however very different. It was built in 1826 at the wish of Leopoldo II, the Grand Duke of Tuscany, who was enchanted by the beauty of the place and attracted, like many, by the underground spring of pure water that in fact was called Acquagista, in contrast to the surrounding wetlands.
In recent years it has become the property of the Moretti family from Brescia, who, as dynamic entrepreneurs in many sectors, have managed to add the fascination of wine and oil to that of the spring.

Farm Holiday Accomodation

Tenuta La Badiola Golf House
This elegant farm holiday accommodation lies in the heart of the wild Tuscan Maremma area, only a few km from Castiglione della Pescaia and its coast. The fact that it has been called a “House” gives an idea of the intimacy and authenticity offered by this structure, while Golf refers instead to the practice green available for use of the guests. The design of the house, with its terracotta flooring and open wooden beams, reflects the old Tuscan traditions and adds refinement and simplicity to the various rooms.

Guests staying at La Badiola Golf House can relax in the two swimming pools (one for adults and the other suitable for children), explore the many footpaths in the area by bike, on foot or on horseback to discover the nearby villages or countryside, visit some of the famous local beaches and coves, like beautiful Cala Violina, Cala Martina, Punta Ala, the beaches of Le Rochette or Marina di Grosseto, or else visit some of the cities elsewhere in Italy. Inside the House, the peaceful bedrooms are surrounded by nature and the vineyards and olive groves of the farm. All the bedrooms or suites contain a small modern kitchen and an outdoor area or a terrace.
Bedrooms
The 14 bedrooms can sleep up to a maximum of 3/4 people each. They all come complete with every comfort.

Wines

They began by founding the Bellavista and the Contadi Castaldi farms in the Franciacorta area and then created an equally ambitious viticultural property – Petra – at Suvereto in the Cornia river valley.
La Badiola, accordingly, confirms their confidence in the future of this coastal viticulture and the Maremma as a prime source of high level wine in central Italy. The grapes planted – Cabernet, Merlot, Syrah, and Alicante for the red wines, Vermentino and Viognier for the whites – are the classic varieties that have already given important results near the Tyrrhenian Sea, and their potential appears to be perfectly expressed in all the production from these vineyards.
