Hystory of the winery

Gaiole in Chianti is the town where the Chianti first originated and rose to fame: it was here in fact that Baron Ricasoli made the important decision, in the mid 19th century, to replace the Canaiolo grape with that of the Sangiovese, which was then to become the main component in the blend. The climate and vegetation in the territory around the borough of Gaiole varies greatly and can reach a height of over 500 meters above sea level.

The Fietri farm is situated in the midst of woods of chestnut and oak trees in one of these mountainous areas and has made its name thanks to a series of original and highly personalised wines, much of whose quality depends on the geographical position, together with the commitment of the owners and the skill of winemakers Maurizio Castelli and Luca Felicioni. Fietri is in fact one of the highest farms in the entire Chianti Classico area and the cool and windy microclimate here is a key factor for the character of the wines as it promotes vigour, elegance, power and concentration. A truly additional advantage that can be clearly seen in the red wines, based mainly on the Sangiovese grape and the most important part of the production.

Farm Holiday Accomodation

Fietri offers its guests four different forms of accommodation inside two old farmhouses. Almost as if in a painting, The farm gives the impression of being part of a painting, thanks to the surrounding vineyards and woods that ensure the great tranquillity that can only be found in the countryside. Each flat is furnished very simply and comfortably and has its own pleasant outdoor area supplied with deckchairs, tables, chairs and a barbecue for relaxing in fine weather.

The old farmhouses have been restored so as to enhance their Tuscan architecture thanks to the restoration of the red terracotta brickwork, open wooden beams, large fireplaces and antique furniture, which all bear witness to the farm’s long history. All this respect for the past however is carefully combined with plenty of up-to-date necessities, so that all the flats are supplied with modern comforts (central heating, washing machine, dishwasher, satellite TV, and Internet).
The winery also testifies to this search for an equal balance between past and present and here tradition is accompanied by advanced and sustainable technology.

The farm also offers the use of a private swimming pool, situated in a secluded and quiet part of the grounds. As the houses themselves are all situated in a delightful hamlet, the Fietri Farm Holiday Accommodation is an ideal place for families who want to relax away from the noise of the city or for groups of friends in search of the right place to enjoy themselves. Fietri is moreover an ideal starting point for visiting the nearby cities of Florence, Siena and Arezzo as well as all the small towns that have made Tuscany so famous.

Holidays Flat

The flats can accommodate up to 20 people and come complete with all amenities.

Wines

The farm's most representative bottles are the DOCG Chianti Classico and Chianti Classico Riserva DOCG; while some of the best Sangiovese grapes are reserved for the Dedicato a Benedetta, an elegant and full-bodied red IGT. These wines are accompanied by the more original Alius et Idem IGT, an excellent blend of Sangiovese, Merlot and Alicante, refined for 18 months in oak barriques and tonneaux. The unusual characteristics of Fietri’s production can also be seen in its Hic et Nunc, an exceptional white wine aged partly in stainless steel and partly in oak. The Fietri property is one of the few places between Florence and Siena where this type of product is blended with Chardonnay and Viognier grapes.
