Everything started 50 years ago with the Rubesco, the flagship wine of the Cantina Lungarotti, and whose name comes from the Latin word ‘rubescere’ or blush: a story based on the bright intuition of Giorgio Lungarotti, an agronomist and "enlightened" winemaker. A farm, whose golden rules are quality, research, innovation, respect for the environment and social responsibility, that has become a symbol of Umbrian wine in the world.
Run by Chiara Lungarotti (the managing director) and her sister Teresa, the Umbrian group produces, on its 250 hectares of vineyard (between the estates of Torgiano and Montefalco), a little over 2 million bottles in 21 labels and exports them to 50 countries in the world.
The estate is further enriched by a cultural foundation directed by Maria Grazia, the founder's wife, who also created the Torgiano Wine Museum, considered the 'best in Italy' by The New York Times and the Olive and Oil Museum. A pioneer of wine tourism in Italy, the Lungarotti experience was the forerunner of the spread of Italian style. Lungarotti means wine.
And, with its wine, it also means soil, vineyards, hard work and creativity, links with the territory and dynamic ways of enhancing it, respect for traditions and an eye for the future.
The first farm in Europe to produce renewable energy from the pruned vine waste with a biomass plant (an over 50% energy self-sufficiency and a significant reduction of CO2 emissions), a strong supporter of sustainable viticulture, the Montefalco estate has been organically certified since the 2014 vintage.
And, with its wine, it also means soil, vineyards, hard work and creativity, links with the territory and dynamic ways of enhancing it, respect for traditions and an eye for the future.

A holiday at "Le Tre Vaselle", in the peaceful medieval village of Torgiano, between Perugia and Assisi in Umbria, is almost impossible to forget thanks to the enveloping, warm and welcoming atmosphere that seems almost to come from another era. Lungarotti Wines
Lungarotti vino rubesco riservaIts production includes the two regional DOCG wines: the Torgiano Rosso Riserva (under the brand name of Rubesco Vigna Monticchio, from Sangiovese and Canaiolo), a great classic that has managed to renew itself, while maintaining its elegance, and conquer the summits of criticism; and the Sagrantino di Montefalco, characteristic for being surprisingly easy to drink in spite of its rich polyphenols.
Then there are the IGT wines, the San Giorgio (Cabernet Sauvignon, Sangiovese and Canajolo), the “Torre di Giano Vigna il Pino”, the Chardonnay “Aurente”, the Rubesco and the Torre di Giano.
