The Umbria region of central Italy is well known for the host of small cities which were important artistic centers in the Middle Ages and Renaissance and have left an important heritage – in the form of architecture and monuments –
for current day visitors to observe and admire. Umbria is also well known for the quality of its olive oil and wine, but Todi, up until recently, was not one of the more renowned spots: in the past production was dominated by the local cooperative, only now doing very good work indeed. It has been joined by a series of small to medium-sized wineries whose wines demonstrates that the area had long had a certain potential for quality. All that was needed were the right men and women to make the potential operational.
The farm was founded in the 1970’s, thanks to the commitment and passion of Franco Todini, from whom it takes it name. This same passion fires his daughter Luisa Todini and her partner Stefano Russo, who took over the farm in 2014 and started completely renewing it, particularly from the point of view of the winery production, without forgetting the effects this change of ownership had on the the Relais and the L'Altro Relais restaurant.
Accomodation - Relais Todini
Guests arriving at the Relais Todini immediately realize that it is an exclusive place to enjoy a wonderful and unforgettable holiday: the hotel is situated inside a 14th century manor house and every detail of the entire structure has been studied to give it the elegance and luxury that have always distinguished it.
The eight bedrooms and four suites are very different from each other in order to ensure that a holiday here is unique and all of them manage to transmit warmth and refinement thanks to the carefully selected furnishings, like the tapestries, the open-beamed wooden ceilings and antique furniture, completed by a beautiful views from all the windows. Clients are further pampered by the fact that the structure also contains a wellness centre, complete with an expert and professional staff, where it is possible to enjoy various types of treatment including wine baths or simply a relaxing soak in a Maxi Jacuzzi with a view.
Restaurant - L'Altro Relais
The panoramic and renovated Relais Todini Restaurant proposes express platters based on the typical Umbrian cuisine, as well as from other regions, with fish, meat, game and pizzas. The Restaurant is not only excellent for its food, but also the service and beautiful location. Its two rooms with a view, situated in a wonderful position that offers a 360 degree vista over the Umbrian hills and the city of Todi, is ideal for all types of banquets and events.
Cantina Todini Wines
Todi is known for the quality of its own particular clone of the Grechetto grape, and the Grechetto Bianco del Cavaliere, some 16000 thousand bottles in a normal year, well represents the zone and the character of the wine.
Sangiovese is the appellation’s other principal grape, and the barrel-aged Rubro shows much fruit, spice, and length. The Bordeaux-style Nero della Cervara, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, rounds out the line.
